Drug raid yields crack, heroin, cash and gun

NEW CASTLE — A Detroit man is in custody after a morning North Hill drug bust yielded crack cocaine, heroin and a gun.

Members of the New Castle police special response team and narcotics agents, along with members of the Lawrence County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force and detectives, served a search warrant at 1604 Highland Ave. around 6 a.m. today.

Two men were in the house when officers entered, and police confiscated more than 40 grams of crack cocaine and 7.6 grams of heroin, along with some pills.

The Detroit man had a loaded .38 special pistol in a backpack near where he was sleeping in the living room, according to reports.

The confiscated drugs have an estimated street value of about $5,000, according to District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa.

He said the Detroit suspect had $934 in his pocket and 11 individual bags of the crack cocaine. Several prescriptions with his name on them were found in his backpack, along with 7.7 grams of heroin, another bag containing 25.5 grams of crack cocaine and a bag containing 24 individual bags of suspected crack weighing 13 grams.

Police also found suboxone pills, a bag of ammunition and a digital scale in the house.

The house is owned by John D. and John M. Cebulka of Cockeysville, Md. according to county assessment records, and is assumed to be leased to one of the individuals. Several complaints about the residence led to the raid, Lamancusa said.

Lamancusa said charges are pending against one or both of the individuals who were at the house during the search.
