Some local municipalities have been targeted by a scam asking them to make payments for a non-existent service.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of State, the solicitations are being mailed to businesses and other entities in the commonwealth from the Pennsylvania Corporate Compliance Co. and Corporate Records Service.
Neither is a legitimate organization, the department said.
Typically, these solicitations are titled “Annual Meeting Disclosure Statement,” “2013 — Annual Minutes Form” or “2013 Annual Corporate Records Form.”
The mailings urge recipients to file information and send payment in the amount of $125 by a certain date in order to maintain proper records.
These solicitations include a citation to the Pennsylvania Business Corporation Law regarding corporate records. The department noted that at first glance, these solicitations may look official, but none of the information being requested is required to be filed with the Department of State or the secretary of the commonwealth.
