Homicide charges held for court

NEW CASTLE — All charges against a West Side man accused in a January fatal shooting have been held for court.

Carlos Anthony Thompson, 37 of 928 W. Washington St., is charged by New Castle police in the South Side shooting death of Robert Quincy Brown, 35, whose addresses are listed as Sciota Street in New Castle and of 2974 Mercer Road in Neshannock Township.

Police said Brown’s body was discovered about 1:30 a.m. Jan. 30 in a field near his van behind Lutton’s Garage. The van had been running and its lights were on and that Brown had been shot in the head, according to police.

Thompson was identified as the shooter with the help of surveillance video from nearby businesses, officers said.

A preliminary hearing yesterday before District Judge David Rishel lasted nearly two hours. Rishel also denied bond.

Thompson remains in the Lawrence County jail, charged with criminal homicide, murder in the first degree, robbery and illegal possession of a firearm.

He was defended by public defender Larry Keith and assistant public defender Dennis Elisco.

Prosecutors were assistant district attorneys Thomas Minett and Jessica Barson.

According to a criminal complaint filed in court, Thompson admitted to shooting Brown after Brown had accused Thompson of killing Brown’s cousin.

Lawrence County District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa last month said he is considering pursuing the death penalty if Thompson is convicted.
