Man charged with drug possession during school visit

NEW CASTLE — A Meadville man visiting a local school is facing drug possession charges.

New Castle police said a summons has been issued to Jeremy Smith, 35, of Liberty Street. He is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

Police said Smith went to George Washington Intermediate Elementary School about 12:30 p.m. Friday to pay for a shirt his daughter had received.

The police officer who was running the metal detector at the door asked Smith and a woman with him if they had anything that would set off the metal detector. If so, he advised them to place it in the bin and walk through the detector.

The officer reported Smith said he had forgotten his checkbook and returned to his car that was parked directly outside the front doors. The officer said he observed Smith throw something on the front passenger seat.

He said Smith then returned to the school, he and the woman passed through the detector, then and went to the school office.

The officer said he looked into Smith’s vehicle and saw a green metal smoking pipe and a small, clear bag containing suspected marijuana.

The officer said he spoke to Smith when he returned to his car and Smith admitted to owning the pipe. He told the officer he had not wanted to take it into the school.

The officer said he seized the pipe and suspected marijuana and sent the couple on their way.

He said the pipe and contents of the baggie will be tested.

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives voted to authorize Speaker John Boehner to sue President Obama for allegedly overstepping his legal authority with the way he's handled Obamacare. Good call?

Yes. Obama's been overstepping his authority since day one in office. It's time he pay the piper.
No. The allegations are ridiculous and the law suit is a waste of time and tax payer money.
I don't know. I'm not a huge fan of Obama, but the suit seems a little extreme.
