NEW CASTLE —
A Westview Terrace resident is in jail after he allegedly fired a gun near a man.
New Castle police arrested Devontae Maurice Rice, 19, of 1007 B Beech St. in connection with Sunday afternoon’s incident.
A Reynolds Street man told police his son had stolen a veteran’s check from his mailbox. He said he walked over to the Big Run projects to confront him and found the son and Rice, his son’s brother, in the area of Reynolds Street and Long Avenue.
The man told police Rice pulled a black revolver from his waistband and pointed it at him, then fired a shot into the air when the man told him he didn’t have the nerve to shoot him.
Rice and the man’s son then ran toward the projects while the father called the police.
Officers found the two and confiscated a .38 Special revolver from Rice that was loaded with five bullets, one of which had been fired.
He is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, recklessly endangering another person and simple assault.
He was arraigned by District Judge Jerry Cartwright and lodged in the Lawrence County jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
