Attorney general rejects Corbett’s lottery plan

HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane said Thursday that she has rejected a contract sought by Gov. Tom Corbett that would let a British firm manage the $3.5 billion Pennsylvania Lottery, saying it it is contrary to the state constitution.

Her decision came after Corbett undertook a nine-month process to hire a private company to replace state employees atop one of the nation's largest lotteries.

Corbett can challenge Kane's decision in court.

A letter writer to The News has suggested there’s plenty to be negative about when it comes to the city of New Castle. In general, are you negative or hopeful about our city?

I’m negative. Nepotism, corruption, and incompetence have ruled for years. Nothing has changed.
I’m hopeful. I view the county as a whole, so there’s a lot to be positive about.
Mixed. I think we’re like any other area. You have to take the bad with the good.
