NEW CASTLE —
A Wayne Township man is lodged in the Lawrence County jail, accused of raping a 14-year-old girl.
Steven Louis Haynes, 61, of 4626 Ellwood Road was charged by state police in an alleged incident that occurred in February or April of last year at his home.
According to a criminal complaint filed in the office of District Judge Jerry Cartwright, the victim in the case told a counselor about being sexually assaulted by Haynes. The information was then turned over to the Lawrence County Children’s Advocacy Center for further investigation and police were contacted.
After receiving statements from the victim, police said they interviewed Haynes on Sunday. Officers said he allegedly told them he had “made a mistake” and admitted to having sex with the girl.
Charges filed against Haynes were rape, statutory sexual assault, sexual assault, corruption of minors and indecent assault.
He was arraigned Tuesday by Cartwright who set bond at $100,000.
A preliminary hearing is set for April 23.
