NEW CASTLE —
A longtime Lawrence County political figure has died.
Former state Rep. Thomas J. Fee died Wednesday at Golden Hill Nursing Home. He was 83.
The New Castle resident had served for 24 years in the Pennsylvania House before retiring in 1994.
After serving in the Legislature, Fee, a Democrat, won a race for Lawrence County commissioner. He served for one term.
As a legislator, Fee represented the 9th District, which covered New Castle and other portions of the county. The district is now served by state Rep. Chris Sainato.
The Thomas J. Fee Bridge that carries I-376 over the Mahoning River is named in his honor, in recognition of Fee’s support for the missing portion of the Beaver Valley Expressway.
Prior to becoming a legislator, Fee served as a Democratic precinct committeeman, ward chairman and state committeeman.
He was elected to New Castle City Council in 1965.
A full obituary for Fee will appear in Friday’s edition of the New Castle News.
