Man in quarry identified

NEW CASTLE — State police have identified a man found dead in Washington Township.

Police said the body of 59-year-old Dwight Copper of 110 George Washington Road was found floating in 10 feet of water near the western shore of a quarry off Kino Road around 2:40 p.m. Sunday.

They determined that Copper had been dead for about 24 hours when he was discovered. He was pronounced dead at the scene by deputy coroner Alfred DeCarbo.

An autopsy was performed Monday morning at Heritage Valley Medical Center, Beaver. Results are pending a toxicology report, according to DeCarbo.

The Volant Volunteer Fire Department and Neshannock Township Fire Department and its water rescue unit also responded to the scene.

The quarry is located off Kino Road, between George Washington Road and Route 956.
