NEW CASTLE —
Alston attempted to flee the scene on foot, police said, and four officers were required to take him into custody when he resisted.
When police checked the vehicle, they found the infant secured in a car seat behind the front passenger seat. Police said the child had no visible injuries and was not crying.
Police said they could smell an alcohol odor on Alston and found an open bottle of alcohol in the vehicle. They also found an unknown light brown substance in the vehicle and later found a plastic bag with the same substance in the cruiser where Alston had been sitting, police said.
Other charges filed against Alston include carrying a firearm without a license, reckless driving and multiple traffic violations.
