Women roused from bed in drug bust

NEW CASTLE — Two women still in bed at Crestview Gardens were roused Wednesday morning by unexpected drop-in company, literally.

Three police officers dressed in fatigues, protective gear and helmets crashed through the front windows of the second-floor apartment around 9:30 a.m., aided by a front-loader that had lifted them up to window-level.

The officers were part of a New Castle Police Department entry team executing an early-morning sealed search warrant at the East Side apartment complex.

They used the fork-lift approach because the downstairs door was reinforced with steel brackets and two-by-fours to prevent entry, according to District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa.

The raid was a joint operation of the Lawrence County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force and the New Castle police narcotics unit.

Two women were arrested and police seized cocaine, marijuana, numerous bottles of pills, $800 and drug paraphernalia.

The New Castle News will provide full coverage in Thursday’s edition.
