NEW CASTLE — Something resembling a wild west shootout occurred early Sunday morning on South Mill Street.

The owner of Reighert’s Bar and Grill at 808 S. Mill St. told police an argument broke out among bar patrons about 1 a.m. He said he broke up the argument and told one of the men he had to leave.

The owner said he escorted the man to a side door but when the door opened, shots were fired from the parking lot toward the door. The owner said he ducked back into the bar but could hear shots striking the building.

Once the shooting stopped, he said, the man he was escorting out opened the door, pulled a gun and opened fire, then ran back into the bar. The owner said more shots were heard.

Police said several bullet holes were found inside the bar near the coolers at the back of the establishment. Glass of two coolers was broken out.

Officers located five 9 mm shell casings near the center of the bar and eight .40-caliber shell casings just outside the side door.

No arrests were made.
