Police arrest 5 in meth lab raid

NEW CASTLE — New Castle police arrested five people in a meth lab raid Wednesday.

Police received a call shortly after 2:30 p.m. about activity at an apartment on McGrath Avenue, which is in the Brinton Hill public housing project.

When officers arrived, they said, they observed material typically associated with a methamphetamine lab. Police obtained a search warrant and contacted county personnel to respond.

Officers in chemical suits handled the materials. Meanwhile, eight apartments in the public housing facility had to be evacuated with the assistance of the New Castle Fire Department.

There were no injuries in the incident.
