State harness commission OKs local track stock transfer

NEW CASTLE — The Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission Thursday approved the transfer of American Harness Tracks stock to Philadelphia-based Endeka Entertainment.

However, within the next 30 to 60 days, six conditions must be met by the newly named developer of Valley View Downs racetrack/casino.

These conditions include providing documentation verifying at least $170 million is available for the construction of a racing facility and that application be made to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board for a casino license for the facility.

Both of those conditions must be met within 30 days.

The company also provided assurance that the development will be built in Mahoning Township, Lawrence County.

More information will be provided tomorrow in the New Castle News.

The Lawrence County commissioners have decided to solicit proposals for the private operation of the county jail. Good idea?

Yes. If it’s a more efficient way to run the jail, I’m all for it.
No. I think there would be too many questions of liability for the county.
Not sure. The county seems to be doing a good job of running the jail now. Why break it if it’s not broken?
