Union man facing assault charges

NEW CASTLE — A Union Township man is in jail for allegedly pulling a knife on a man and assaulting two relatives.

Union Township police were called around midnight Thursday to the home of Charles Hill, 35, of 20 Cecil Ave., who allegedly beat up his mother and punched his nephew in the face.

Police said Hill allegedly threatened his niece’s boyfriend, held a large knife to his throat and told him to get out of his house. He then went into his nephew’s room, and Hill’s mother, fearing for the boy’s safety, tried to get Hill out of the room, officers said. However, he shoved her to the ground and kicked her in the face, according to police. When the nephew tried to get Hill away from his mother, he punched the nephew in the face, police reported.

Hill made a racial slur toward the niece’s boyfriend in their presence, police said.

Hill is charged with one count each of aggravated assault, terroristic threats and ethnic intimidation and two counts of simple assault in connection with the incident.

He was arraigned by District Judge Jennifer L. Nicholson, and is being held in the Lawrence County jail on $10,000 bond.
