NEW CASTLE —
Two women were charged with burglary following a break-in Saturday afternoon on Court Street.
Witnesses told New Castle police that two women were seen at a house in the 700 block of Court Street at 12:11 p.m. The witness said one threw a rock, breaking a back door window to gain entry.
Police apprehended Elizabeth L. Strohecker, 28, of 909 E. Washington St. as she was walking away from the house. They took 27-year-old Diane M. Lidey of 1212 Cunningham Ave. into custody in the backyard of a house in the 200 block of Mulberry Street.
Strohecker was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, theft and receiving stolen property.
Lidey was charged with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, theft, receiving stolen property, criminal mischief, six counts of manufacture, delivery or possession of a controlled substance and three counts of possession of a controlled substance.
Both women remain in Lawrence County jail on $10,000 bond.
Police said Lidey was arrested with three handbags that she said were hers. Inside the bags, police said, were items that officers believed had been taken from the residence, including a laptop computer. Police said they also discovered suspected narcotics in the bags.
At the police station, an officer field tested the suspected narcotics which tested positive for heroin and cocaine.
Police said they took into custody 13 bags of suspected heroin, 22 small clear plastic bags of suspected crack cocaine, two large clear plastic bags of suspected crack cocaine.
