Driver charged in accident that hurt child

NEW CASTLE — Charges have been filed against a driver involved in an auto accident that injured a 3-year-old.

Mark Robert Bacon, 33, of 536 Glen Ave., Ellwood City, is charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, possession of a small amount of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under suspension, driving under DUI suspension, driving with an expired license, careless driving, failure to use child restraint systems and several moving violations.

State police said Bacon was driving Saturday afternoon on Portersville Road in Wayne Township and crossed the center line, colliding with an oncoming vehicle.

The crash injured 3-year-old Cameron J. Houk of Ellwood City, who was a passenger in Bacon’s auto. The boy was taken by helicopter to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh and is recovering from injuries.
