Fire destroys mobile home

NEW CASTLE — Two people and four animals escaped injury when fire destroyed a mobile home Friday in New Beaver Borough.

New Beaver Volunteer Fire Chief Kevin Peters said the blaze began in the ceiling over the kitchen and bedrooms of the home of Kenneth and Dawn King at 138 Short Street off Newport Road.

Peters said the fire is believed to have been electrical. He said he did not contact the fire marshal.

Kenneth King said he had noticed smoke, shut off the electric and called 911 just after noon. Fire departments from Wampum and North Beaver Township joined the New Beaver crew, who arrived about 12:15 p.m. They remained until 1:30 p.m. Medevac Ambulance was also at the scene.

Peters said no injuries were reported and the Kings and their pets were safely evacuated.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family to secure lodging and meet other needs.
