NEW CASTLE —
A South New Castle Borough man remains in jail after being held for court on rape and other charges.
Todd A. Vocature, 52, of 2215 S. Jefferson St., is being held on $100,000 bond. He is accused of tying up a 15-year-old girl and sexually assaulting her at his home.
Although the alleged incident occurred Aug. 31, he was not taken into custody until Sept. 13 in Massillon, Ohio. Authorities said he fled this area and checked himself into a mental health facility, where federal marshals arrested him.
Local officials were able to extradite Vocature from Ohio and he was placed in the county jail Oct. 23. At his preliminary hearing late last week, District Judge David Rishel ordered him held on all charges. They are statutory sexual assault, rape, criminal attempt of rape, indecent assault of an individual under 16 years of age, corruption of minors, indecent exposure, unlawful restraint, indecent assault without consent, forcible indecent assault and aggravated indecent assault of a child.
Vocature had a prior conviction as a child sexual offender, and at the time of the alleged Aug. 31 incident, he was awaiting court proceedings on charges of failing to properly register with authorities as a sex offender.
