City man facing drug charges

NEW CASTLE — A Grant Street projects man is wanted after police found crack cocaine in his car.

New Castle police pulled over a car driven by Desmond Damon Whetzel, 33, of 302 Halco Drive, around 3 p.m. Friday near the intersection of North Mill and East North streets downtown.

Police said they recognized him and learned his license was under suspension.

They released him, impounded his car and, after obtaining a search warrant, found a plastic bag containing 31 pieces of crack cocaine, a bag containing suspected marijuana and a suspected marijuana cigarette inside the vehicle.

Whetzel is charged with possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana, and driving while operating privileges are suspended or revoked.
