Local E-Z Pass lanes to close for work

NEW CASTLE — Express E-ZPass lanes at the Pennsylvania Turnpike’s Gateway Mainline Toll Plaza 2 in Lawrence County will close Thursday.

The closure — from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — will allow for needed maintenance, according to turnpike officials.

The work will be conducted if weather permits.

Message boards will be in place to alert motorists of the closure and direct them to where conventional lanes will be designated as E-ZPass only or cash only. Motorist should be aware that the designated E-ZPass lanes have a speed limit of 5 mph.

Travelers can get turnpike traffic alerts by calling (866) 976-TRIP or visiting the live travel conditions map online at www.paturnpike.com/webmap.

A letter writer to The News has suggested there’s plenty to be negative about when it comes to the city of New Castle. In general, are you negative or hopeful about our city?

I’m negative. Nepotism, corruption, and incompetence have ruled for years. Nothing has changed.
I’m hopeful. I view the county as a whole, so there’s a lot to be positive about.
Mixed. I think we’re like any other area. You have to take the bad with the good.
