NEW CASTLE —
A Pennsylvania state police officer is dead after an accident in Beaver County.
According to a report issued by state police, Trooper Blake T. Coble, 47, died after his cruiser was struck broadside by a tractor-trailer rig at the intersection of Routes 168 and 251 in South Beaver Township.
The accident occurred shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday.
A report said Coble was traveling east on Route 251 when the southbound tractor-trailer, operated by Gregory Golkosky, 47, of Mount Pleasant failed to stop for a stop sign while traveling on Route 168.
After the collision, Coble was transported by ambulance to Heritage Valley Health Center in Beaver, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said they interviewed Golkosky after the accident and their investigation is continuing. No other details about the collision have been released.
According to police, Coble was first assigned to Troop E in Erie in June 1988 and had been working out of the Beaver station of Troop D.
He married his wife, Brenda, in October 2003 and they had two children, ages 6 and 8.
Thursday afternoon, Gov. Tom Corbett ordered all Pennsylvania flags in the Capitol Complex and at state facilities in Beaver County to fly at half-staff in honor of Coble, who had served as a trooper for 24 years.
In a statement, state police Commissioner Frank Noonan said, “His untimely death left two children without a father and a wife without her husband, plus countless friends and family members grieving.
“He died serving the people of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the men and women of the Pennsylvania State Police mourn his loss and extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends.”
