NEW CASTLE —
Two people were injured in a head-on crash early yesterday in New Beaver Borough.
The accident occurred about 4:30 a.m. on Route 18 near Newport Road.
Two vehicles were involved, according to state police, and the injured were taken to the hospital, including one person who was cut from the wreckage.
The accident remains under investigation.

Man charged with arson after his house burns
A Taylor Township man who allegedly doused his home with gasoline faces multiple charges of arson and assault. Jason P. Merlini, 39, of 309 Warner Alley was charged with six counts of arson, five counts of aggravated assault including one for domestic violence, one count of reckless burning and five counts of recklessly endangering another person.

‘Carelessness’ caused Overlook fire
The state fire marshal has determined a blaze at the Overlook Health and Rehabilitation Center was caused by carelessness. Trooper David Jungling issued his report Friday and said the blaze was determined to have been caused by the careless disposal of smoking materials.

Two people were injured in a pair of accidents Thursday, New Castle police reported. One involved a car that went over an embankment off West Pittsburg Road in Taylor Township around noon.
