NEW CASTLE —
A West Side man faces attempted homicide and other charges following a shooting at a South Side bar.
Jauan Marcus Searcy, 31, of 912 McCleary Ave., is charged with attempted homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, illegal possession of firearms, recklessly endangering another, simple assault and receiving stolen property.
He was arraigned before District Judge Melissa Amodie and remains in the Lawrence County jail on $150,000 bond.
New Castle police were called to Buzz & Rich’s, also called Panella Brothers’ Bar, at 1701 Hamilton St., at 9:45 p.m. Thursday following a report of shots fired.
Police said they found Arlen Brewer on the ground at the back of the parking lot. He was taken to Jameson Hospital, then flown to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. Police said Brewer had been shot several times, including in the head.
Officers also said they had recovered a silver revolver near the victim in the parking lot.
Witnesses told police Searcy and Brewer had argued inside the bar and the encounter became physical.
Bar owner Mark Panella provided police with a surveillance videotape. While watching the tape at the bar, officers were informed Searcy was at Jameson Hospital seeking treatment for a laceration at the back of his head.
He told police he had been “pistol whipped” by Brewer in the back of the bar and his head was “foggy” because of the injury.
According to police reports, officers who viewed the surveillance tape said it clearly shows Searcy holding the silver revolver in his right hand and pointing it at Brewer. Officers said the tape also shows one of the witnesses striking Searcy numerous times with a beer bottle. Police said this is consistent with his head injuries.
Police also determined the revolver, which held five live and five spent rounds, had been reported stolen from Beaver County.
Officers said Searcy has a felony drug conviction and is prohibited from possessing a firearm.
