Man charged after parking lot fight

NEW CASTLE — A man who allegedly punched two people during a fight in a bar parking lot is facing charges.

New Castle police reported a fight had broken out around 1:30 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of a bar in the 300 block of South Jefferson Street. A caller reported a man who goes by the name of “Alabama” had assaulted several people, then left on a bicycle.

The caller told police several people were hanging around a wall in the parking lot and that “Alabama,” whose real identity is Kenneth John Kelly, 49, with a last known address at 4 Cliff St., became angry and said he wanted to fight.

The man said Kelly had punched him in the face near his left jaw and he fell over, then Kelly pushed another man off the wall and pulled a knife on a third person and threatened to kill him.

A fourth man there told police Kelly had punched him in the left side of his neck.

Police charged Kelly with two counts each of simple assault and harassment.
