Man accused in shooting jailed

NEW CASTLE — Police have apprehended a man wanted in connection with a shooting last week.

Robert Kevin Garrison, 50, of 209 Park Ave., is being held in the county jail on $125,000 bond.

He is charged with criminal attempt to commit criminal homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, prohibited possession of a firearm, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, burglary, criminal trespass, flight to avoid apprehension and disorderly conduct. The last four charges were filed after his apprehension.

A preliminary hearing is set for July 8.

Garrison was arrested Friday night by New Castle police after two city officers working a detail for the Lawrence County Housing Authority spotted him on West Lincoln Avenue and chased him. Police said Garrison ran through the apartment of two women who do not know him, then ran out their front door.

Garrison is accused of shooting Michael Betts, 33, formerly of Detroit, on June 22. The shooting occurred at Garrison’s home, where Betts allegedly was living in a third-floor attic with his girlfriend.

According to police, Garrison fired a rifle with buckshot at Betts, who raised his hand to shield his head. Betts had several pellets lodged in his face and lost the tips of several fingers on his left hand.

Doctors removed 40 BBs from Betts’ body. He initially was listed in critical condition at a Youngstown hospital and later was transferred to Akron City Hospital. New Castle Police Chief Robert Salem said Betts’ condition is no longer critical.

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives voted to authorize Speaker John Boehner to sue President Obama for allegedly overstepping his legal authority with the way he's handled Obamacare. Good call?

Yes. Obama's been overstepping his authority since day one in office. It's time he pay the piper.
No. The allegations are ridiculous and the law suit is a waste of time and tax payer money.
I don't know. I'm not a huge fan of Obama, but the suit seems a little extreme.
