Man stabbed during fight

NEW CASTLE — An East Side man is in the Lawrence County jail, accused of stabbing another man during a weekend disturbance.

New Castle police arrested Christopher DeFiore, 24, of 507 Friendship St. in connection with the incident.

A man reported he had been stabbed twice in the back. Police said they observed two puncture wounds in the middle of his back that did not appear to be life-threatening.

The man told officers he had been visiting a woman in the Sciota Street projects and he became involved in a fight with three other men outside her apartment.

He told police DeFiore had punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground, and two other men had assaulted him.

He told police later that DeFiore is the one who had stabbed him and that he had seen a pocket knife in DeFiore’s pocket earlier that evening.

When he fell, he told police, he had heard a knife click open, looked up and saw DeFiore with the open knife in his hand. He said he was still being assaulted by the three and did not see DeFiore actually stab him, according to police.

DeFiore is charged with aggravated and simple assault, harassment and recklessly endangering another person.

He was arraigned by District Judge Jennifer L. Nicholson, who set his bond at $10,000.

Police said charges are pending against the other two men who allegedly were involved in the fight.

The man with the stab wounds was taken to Jameson Hospital for treatment.
