Police search for rapist, good Samaritan

NEW CASTLE — Ellwood City police are looking for two men  — an accused rapist and the good Samaritan who saved the victim.

Lt. David Kingston said a 21-year-old woman went to the police station at 7:45 a.m. Sunday and reported she had been raped.

The woman said she had been walking on First Street near Fountain Avenue at 4 a.m. when she was grabbed, shoved into a wall then pinned to the ground by a man who sexually assaulted her.

She said an unknown individual, driving a Chevrolet pickup truck, apparently observed the attack. She said he yanked the attacker off her.

The victim told police the attacker fled. The other man offered her a ride home, which she said she accepted. Later she went to the police department to report the incident.

Police said the victim does not know the identity of either man.

Officers ask the good Samaritan to come forward, identify himself and help to identify the attacker so officers can make an arrest.
