Neighbor sees, identifies alleged burglars

NEW CASTLE — A vigilant neighbor caught two men allegedly breaking into an East Side house and stealing while the resident was away.

New Castle police charged Michael Wojnarowski, 27, of 713 Superior St., and Henry Lawrence Grannis Jr., 23, of Ellwood City, in connection with a July 7 burglary in the 700 block of Butler Avenue.

The resident reported to police a padlock had been broken from the garage door and someone stole wrench and socket sets and damaged his vehicle parked inside.

A lock on a window of the house was broken, a box of personal checks was stolen and a television was damaged, he reported.

A neighbor told the resident he had seen Grannis and Wojnarowski at the house around 1 a.m. and caught them with the stolen items and told them to return them.

The neighbor told police he had seen a vehicle in the man’s driveway and the two accused were carrying the television out of the house.

The resident told police it appeared the tools had been slid over the hood of his car, scratching it.

Both Wojarnowski and Grannis are charged with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, burglary without overnight accommodation, conspiracy to commit burglary without overnight accommodations, theft, attempted theft and criminal mischief.

Wojarnowski was arraigned by District Judge Melissa Amodie and released on his own recognizance.

Grannis is wanted on a warrant.
