Man accused of carrying meth lab supplies

NEW CASTLE — A West Side man picked up by police on a warrant allegedly had methamphetamine laboratory components in his backpack.

Police arrested 20-year-old Michael Charles Fuge of 814 W. Washington St. when they saw him walking on North Beaver Street near West Falls Street around 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Officers recognized Fuge and knew he was wanted on a bench warrant. The police asked him repeatedly to stop but he ignored them, then ran. They chased him and caught him at East North Street.

Police searched Fuge and allegedly found items in his backpack that are known to be used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.

They included a bottle of charcoal lighter fluid, a bag of instant ice compress containing ammonium nitrate, a bottle containing ammonium nitrate pellets, a bottle containing lye or sodium hydroxide, five batteries, a bottle containing myriadic acid, a dinner plate, a clear plastic tube, a diphenhydramine pill, multiple cut pieces of orange plastic straw, five pipes used to ingest controlled substances and a pair of tweezers.

Police said Fuge supplied them with a written statement saying he had been using the items to make methamphetamine.

Police Chief Bobby Salem said Fuge indicated he had been making the product for his own use, but the investigation is continuing.

Fuge is charged with having liquefied ammonia gas, precursors and chemicals, possession of drug paraphernalia and flight to avoid apprehension.

He was arraigned by District Judge Scott McGrath and lodged in the Lawrence County jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.

A customer near Pittsburgh was shot and killed as he tried to stop a bank robber from fleeing in his getaway car. What would you have done?

I would have tried to stop the crook too, regardless of the consequences. We need more heroes to end this madness.
Let him get away. You saw what happened in this case. However, I would try to get information to help police capture him. That’s THEIR job!
