NEW CASTLE —
Police say what started as a domestic fight Saturday at Neshannock Village turned into a brawl where officers were assaulted.
New Castle police were called to the Lawrence County Housing Authority-owned complex around 10:45 a.m. for a domestic argument between a boyfriend and girlfriend, according to police chief Bobby Salem.
The woman in the apartment had called her relatives to get her boyfriend out of the house, he said, and when the police arrived and tried to arrest one of the apartment occupants, the disturbance escalated to several people who had gathered having to be chased away, Salem recounted.
Several police officers got elbowed in the face, shoved and pushed in the head, according to reports.
Officers from Shenango, Union and Neshannock township police departments and the state police were summoned to assist with controlling the unruly crowd that had gathered at the projects, a bystander reported.
Police arrested five people, including a 14-year-old juvenile.
Officers had to use a Taser on 18-year-old Latrell Montell McKnight of Neshannock Villlage, after he ran from police while in handcuffs, Salem said. He was taken to the hospital to have the Taser prongs removed.
No other injuries were reported.

A South Side man was arrested on gun and drug charges following a traffic stop on the city’s North Hill. Martel Lamar Webb, 19, of 199 Hamilton St. had been wanted by police on charges in a domestic assault case in May when police caught up with him.
