Man accused of threatening woman with machete

NEW CASTLE — An East Side man has been arrested for allegedly threatening a woman with a machete.

Leonard M. Wilder Jr., 34, of 821 E. Washington St., is charged with one count each of terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault and harassment.

Police were called to his house regarding a domestic incident around 10:20 a.m. Friday, where a woman said that during an argument, Wilder threatened her with a machete. She said he became agitated and knocked a coffee pot off the counter. He threatened to kill another man and stab her to death, too.

She said Wilder had the machete in his hand when he allegedly made the threats.

Police found the machete in the kitchen and confiscated it.

Wilder is being held in the Lawrence County jail on $2,500 bond.

The Lawrence County commissioners have decided to solicit proposals for the private operation of the county jail. Good idea?

Yes. If it’s a more efficient way to run the jail, I’m all for it.
No. I think there would be too many questions of liability for the county.
Not sure. The county seems to be doing a good job of running the jail now. Why break it if it’s not broken?
