NEW CASTLE —
An Edinburg man is facing charges from three police departments in two states.
Mahoning Township police are charging Brett Andrew Pagley, 33, with fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving and depositing waste on the highway.
According to court documents, an officer saw a pickup truck traveling west on Route 224 at high speed around 2:20 a.m. Friday. As the officer attempted to make a traffic stop at North Edinburg Road, the driver increased his speed of about 90 mph.
Police said the truck was driving erratically and almost struck guard rails, adding the driver threw a cigarette out the window.
The pursuit continued into Ohio, and Mahoning police were joined by Union Township police. Poland, Ohio, police joined in the pursuit, then Boardman Township, Ohio, police deployed stop sticks on Route 224 near Market Street, causing damage to the pickup’s tires.
The vehicle crossed several lanes of traffic and struck a snow bank, causing the truck to stop. The driver’s door then opened and Pagley landed face first in the snow, court papers said.
Ohio state police took custody of Pagley for driving under the influence.
Boardman police were to take custody for charges after Pagley was released by state police.

A New Castle man who hit a tree in Pulaski Township has been admitted to St. Elizabeth Health Center. According to Pulaski Township police, Adam Welsh, 36, of 202 E. Fairmont Ave., was eastbound on Route 422 about 1:30 a.m. Thursday when his pickup truck left the road.
