NEW CASTLE —
An East Side man is listed in stable condition after being stabbed repeatedly in his living room New Year’s Eve.
Meanwhile, his two accused assailants are in the Lawrence County jail.
New Castle police responded around 11:35 p.m. to a call from 202 S. Ray St., where they found 47-year-old Jeffrey Wade of that address lying on the living room floor covered with blood.
Officers reported Wade had been stabbed several times in the lower back. He was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, where he remains hospitalized.
A witness told police she had seen Rachelle Marie Lombardo, 28, of the same address stabbing Wade with two kitchen knives.
The witness said Wade had been arguing with Charles Jacob Brier, 27, of 313 Boyles Ave., in the living room, and Lombardo entered the room with two knives and stabbed Wade in the back. He immediately fell to the floor, then Lombardo got on top of him and continued stabbing him in the back repeatedly with both knives, the witness told police.
She said she pushed Lombardo off Wade, but Lombardo got back on top of him and kept stabbing him.
Another witness said he had been in a bedroom when he heard Wade and Brier arguing, which evolved into a physical fight. He said he looked out the bedroom door to see Lombardo stabbing Wade, and he saw Brier punching Wade in the face.
He told police he had seen Lombardo wipe off the knives and throw them behind shrubbery in the front yard before leaving with Brier.
Officers later found the knives in the shrubbery.
Police said they received a call later that Lombardo and Brier were hiding in a garage on Mulberry Street. Officers found them there and arrested them.
Police said Lombardo identified herself by a false first name, and Brier’s clothing was blood-covered.
Both declined statements about the incident.
Lombardo is charged with criminal attempt at homicide, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and false identity to authorities.
Brier is charged with simple assault and harassment for allegedly punching Wade several times in the face.
Both were arraigned Tuesday by District Judge David B. Rishel, who set Lombardo’s bond at $100,000. Wade’s bond is $25,000. Their preliminary hearings are set for Tuesday.
