NEW CASTLE — A Volant man is in the county jail after police accused him of inappropriate contact with a child.

Mark Anthony Looney, 37, of 2382 Route 956, is facing three charges: sending obscene or other sexual materials and performance to a child via the Internet, unlawful contact with a minor and corruption of minors.

State police said other charges may be filed against Looney, pending an investigation of his computer by the Pennsylvania State Police Computer Forensics Unit.

According to police, the mother of an 11-year-old Pulaski Township girl discovered what were described as sexually graphic materials in her daughter’s Facebook account while checking her computer.

She contacted the Pulaski Township Police Department, which turned the investigation over to state police. An examination of the material determined Looney had been attempting a meeting with the girl, police said, and that he had sent her an inappropriate photo.

Based on the information, a search warrant was executed at Looney’s home and his computers and electronic storage devices were seized. He was taken into custody and charged Saturday.

Looney was arraigned before District Judge David Rishel and ordered held in the Lawrence County jail on a $10,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday.
