Fire damages New Wilmington home

NEW CASTLE — A fire damaged a home Friday morning in New Wilmington.

Todd Wilson, assistant fire chief of the New Wilmington Volunteer Fire Department, said  fire marshals were on the scene investigating to determine the cause of the blaze at 225 Carol Drive.

The fire broke out in the attached garage around 9:55 a.m. Nobody was at home at the time, according to Wilson. He said the home is owned by Brian Jones.

Chris Cox, who has a lawn service and was aerating the lawn, said he head a pop and a bang. His coworker, Ervin Byler, said he saw smoke coming from the garage. They tried putting out the fire with a garden hose, but it wasn’t effective, and they dialed 911.

Wilson said firefighters cleared the scene at 2:05 p.m. Volant and Pulaski and Neshannock township volunteer fire departments assisted.
