Man scuffles with police

NEW CASTLE — A Bessemer man is facing aggravated assault charges after he allegedly was involved in an altercation with police.

James Arthur Hill Jr., 48, of 30 Sixth St. was charged by Bessemer police after an incident at Hill’s home early Tuesday afternoon.

Police were summoned after receiving reports Hill had been threatening people. Officers said he became agitated when an attempt was made to take him into custody.

During the scuffle, police said, they had to use a Taser on Hill and in the process of doing so, one officer accidentally Tased another.

Along with aggravated assault, Hill is charged with resisting arrest. A preliminary hearing has yet to be scheduled.
