Local department of revenue office closing

NEW CASTLE — New Castle will lose five jobs when the department of revenue consolidates district offices in western Pennsylvania.

The five employees at the New Castle office at 103 S. Mercer St. will be reassigned to Pittsburgh and Erie sites when the local facility closes permanently June 28.

The move is expected to save $208,000 annually in reduced operating costs.

Effective July 1, the Greentree office at 11 Parkway Center will take on taxpayer services previously available at the New Castle location

Area residents needing help filing state taxes or completing property tax/rent rebate program applications may call or visit district offices in Pittsburgh, at the Chamber of Commerce Building, Room 420, 411 Seventh Ave.; Greensburg, second floor at 15 W. Third St.; Erie, at 448 W. 11th St. or the Greentree office.

Free property tax/rent rebate program forms and assistance also are available at no cost from local area agencies on aging, senior centers and state legislators’ offices.

There they may file returns, make payments — including estimated payments— check the status of returns and refunds, update information, pay taxes by credit/debit card, access online customer service, review answers to commonly asked questions and download tax forms.
