NEW CASTLE — The city of New Castle has sold its property in California.

City council approved the sale of the San Bernardino County property for $50,000 on Thursday.

The estate of Stella Litwinovich bequeathed the property to the city and named the fire department as the beneficiary. Litwinovich had been a New Castle resident.

The city had to petition the courts in California to gain possession of the property. After gaining possession, council approved listing it for sale in March 2013.

City solicitor Jason Medure said the city’s net proceeds will be less than $50,000, but more than $40,000, once it deducts the fee for the real estate firm and reimburses the general fund for taxes paid on the property the last couple years.

The net amount will go to the fire department toward the purchase of a truck.
