Blaze destroys vacant house

NEW CASTLE — A fire of undetermined origin gutted a vacant house early yesterday at 1025 S. Cascade St.

According to a New Castle Fire Department report, firefighters were summoned around 2:30 a.m. to the two-story structure, where they found flames coming out of the back of the house from the first floor to the roof.

Two shifts of firefighters responded and were at the scene for more than two hours.

The loss is estimated at $25,000.

According to Lawrence County assessment office records, the property is owned by Patsy Dominick Aluisia  of 316 E. Park Avenue.

The New Castle police fire marshal has been called to investigate the blaze.
