Near collision results in arrest

NEW CASTLE — A man who almost collided with a police car faces receiving stolen property and other charges.

New Castle police said they stopped a car driven by Tihry Lamar Gardner, 22, of 105 N. Lee Ave. after he pulled from Crawford Avenue about 1:30 p.m. Monday and almost collided with a police car, which had been westbound on Court Street.

According to the arrest report, officers said they smelled marijuana when they approached Gardner’s car. They said K-9 officer Dus was summoned and indicated the presence of narcotics. The car was towed to the New Castle police department and officers requested a search warrant.

Police located a loaded pink and black revolver in the glove compartment, which they said had been stolen from Neshannock Township.

Gardner was charged with receiving stolen property, carrying a concealed weapon without a license and summary traffic offenses.
