NEW CASTLE —
An Edinburg man died after being hit by a car while crossing Route 422 in Mahoning Township.
Edward Minteer, 63, was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown.
Mahoning Township police said Minteer was hit in front of Town and Country Lounge at 2552 Benjamin Franklin Highway just before 7 p.m. Tuesday. Officers said he was struck by a westbound vehicle, driven by Ardell Biddle, 58, of Pulaski. Minteer was hit in the westbound lane as he was walking toward his home, police said. Biddle told officers he had not see the man until he was struck.
Officers said Minteer was taken to St. Elizabeth with critical injuries and pronounced dead by Mahoning County (Ohio) Coroner Dr. David Kennedy. An autopsy was to have been conducted Wednesday.
Lawrence County Coroner Russell Noga said Minteer was a resident of Cedar Manor Personal Care Home at 2593 Benjamin Franklin Highway, located almost across the highway from the bar.
“I understand that he frequented the bar,” Noga said. “Until now, he apparently never had any problem” crossing the street.
Police are continuing to investigate the accident.
