Man, 61, accused of sexually assaulting girls

NEW CASTLE — A Wayne Township man is in custody for alleged sexual assault of children.

State police arrested Gerald Lee Hermann, 61, of 184 Calvert Lane after receiving a complaint that he had made several types of sexual advances against two females — a 12-year-old and an 8-year-old — and got them to rub lotion on his back.

Following an investigation that involved Lawrence County Children and Youth Services and a forensic interviewer, police interviewed Hermann who allegedly admitted to being alone with one of the girls with the door closed and that there may have been “incidental” contact of her private areas. Police said the child’s description of that contact provided a lot more detail of his hands being inside her clothing.

Police said the alleged incidents occurred while the children’s mother was not at home.

Hermann is charged with aggravated indecent assault of a child, corruption of minors, indecent assault of a person younger than 13 years of age and endangering the welfare of children.

He was arrested Wednesday morning and arraigned before District Judge Jerry G. Cartwright, who lodged him in the Lawrence County jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond.

His preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday.
