NEW CASTLE —
Police have charged a New Castle woman whose car wiped out poles and trees on Highland Avenue last month.
Sabrina Suders, 31, of 922 Temple Ave., faces charges of driving under the influence and reckless driving after her blood tested positive for Diazepam, Noridazepam, Oxazepam, Temazapam and hydrocodone, according to New Castle police.
She also was charged this week with accidents involving personal injury, accident invoving damage to attended vehicle or property and traffic violations.
Suders lost control near Edgewood Avenue around 2:30 p.m. Aug. 27 and police found her sitting inside her brand-new 2012 Chevrolet Camaro, which had been totaled. Parts of her car were scattered in yards and on the road through several blocks.
The city police and fire departments closed a section of Highland Avenue for hours after the accident, not only to deal with the wreckage, but also with downed power lines that had cut electricity to residents in the area.
Police reported Suders allegedly traveled 271 feet while her car was out of control and hit a sign pole, a marker pole, a storm sewer, a telephone pole, three trees and a power pole.
A witness had told police she had been turning onto Mercer Road from Shenango Road in Neshannock Township when the orange Camaro sped past her in the northbound lane. She saw the Camaro stop at the Maitland Lane traffic light, then pass the car in front of her in the nothbound lane. The witness said northbound traffic was forced off to the berm. She said she called 911 prior to the accident, then she saw the Camaro crashing into the posts.
