Police: Man tackles, robs woman

NEW CASTLE — A man who robbed a woman in a convenience store stole $5 from her, New Castle police reported.

The 29-year-old woman reported the incident to the police around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday from Jameson Hospital, saying she had been mugged in a side lot of an East Washington Street food store that afternoon.

She said she had left the store and was walking toward the side of the building to her waiting ride between 2:50 and 3:05 p.m. when someone pushed her to the ground from behind. She said she fell onto her knees, then onto her left shoulder, and felt as if someone was holding her back down with a knee, and her neck and head were pushed to the ground.

She heard a man say, “Where is your money? I know you got some, you just left the store,” she told police.

She told the man she had money in her pants pocket, and he reached in, took a $5 bill and ran.

She said she decided to go to the hospital later because she had bruising on her shoulder and her lower back was hurting. The hospital staff contacted the police.
