New Castle men killed in crash

NEW CASTLE — Two New Castle men were killed in a traffic accident Sunday morning in Poland Township, Ohio.

Pronounced dead at the scene were Louis J. Pullia, 49, and Thomas A. Costello Jr. 55.

A third occupant, Charles E. Park Jr., 41, of New Castle sustained serious injuries and was transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred at 12:08 a.m. on New Castle Road.

Police said Pullia, driving a Hyundai Santa Fe, was traveling west on New Castle Road and went off the left side of the road, striking a mail box and then a tree.

Both Pullia and Costello were pronounced dead at the scene, police said, adding that none of the occupants was wearing a seat belt. The accident remains under investigation.

A letter writer to The News has suggested there’s plenty to be negative about when it comes to the city of New Castle. In general, are you negative or hopeful about our city?

I’m negative. Nepotism, corruption, and incompetence have ruled for years. Nothing has changed.
I’m hopeful. I view the county as a whole, so there’s a lot to be positive about.
Mixed. I think we’re like any other area. You have to take the bad with the good.
