NEW CASTLE —
Police believe a Shenango Township man is responsible for a handful of fall break-ins around Lawrence County.
State and New Castle police this week filed charges against Brandon Daniel Bailey, 28, of 1121 Edwin Drive, who is serving time on other burglary and theft-related charges. He is in the state correctional institution in Mercer.
The latest charges stem from house break-ins between Sept. 16 and Oct. 5. The homes were on Mercer Street in Pulaski, Heckathorne Road in Scott Township, Moffatt and Eastbrook roads in Hickory Township and South Cascade Street in the city.
In each incident, Bailey is charged with burglary, criminal trespass and theft and — in all but one case — criminal mischief. He also faces a receiving stolen property charge for the incident in the city.
In each case, state police drove him to each of the houses that had been burglarized and he described to officers on a tape recording about how he had broken into each home, according to court documents.
Cash and/or quantities of jewelry were reported stolen in each incident.
Police said Bailey had been selling jewelry to various precious metal dealers in Pennsylvania and Ohio during the weeks of the burglaries and a lot of the items were identified as those taken from Lawrence County homes during the burglaries.
Numerous silver necklaces had been sold at a local jewelry shop Sept. 21, and the resident of the Moffatt Road home identified several of them as those taken from there.
State police interviewed Bailey Oct. 17 and he admitted to having committed all five burglaries.
According to court records, he told state troopers he is addicted to drugs and is supporting his habit.
The charges were filed in the courts of District Judges David B. Rishel, Scott A. McGrath and Melissa A. Amodie.
