Search at Crestview turns up drugs, gun

NEW CASTLE — Local narcotics agents raiding a Crestview Gardens apartment found a loaded gun, drugs, two adults and a child.

New Castle police arrested Lierre “L.A.” Armstrong, 24, of Rear 10 1/2 Lutton St., around 6:30 a.m. Friday.

Members of the Lawrence County District Attorney’s special investigation unit and the city’s special response team entered the apartment at 1140 Parkwood Court and found Armstrong and a woman sleeping in the living room. They learned Armstrong had two active bench warrants from Lawrence County courts.

A loaded 9 mm Ruger was found hidden in the couch where the two had been sleeping, police said.

A search of the house turned up numerous scales with suspected drug residue, rolled up bill for snorting cocaine, 1.7 grams of heroin, six grams of cocaine, a small amount of marijuana and $1,297, according to District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa.

He noted Armstrong has a previous conviction of possession with intent to deliver controlled substances.

Lawrence County Children and Youth Services was notified about the child, and the girl was turned over to relatives, Lamancusa said.

Armstrong is charged with possession with intent to deliver, possession, use or possession of drug paraphernalia and illegal possession of a firearm.

He was arraigned Monday morning by District Judge Melissa A. Amodie and lodged in the Lawrence County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Lamancusa said charges are pending against the woman who had been in the apartment with Armstrong.
