Liberty Street crash sends car over hillside

NEW CASTLE —

Two cars collided at Liberty and Swansea streets, knocking one over the hill and trapping the driver.
New Castle police said Casandra M. Hazel, 21, of 227 1/2 Pearson St., driving a Chevy Cavalier, told them she had been stopped, westbound on Swansea about 10:20 p.m. Saturday. She said she pulled into the intersection, where she collided with a Nissan Altima, driven by Amanda Brickell, 29, of 509 W. Cherry St.
Police said the impact sent Brickell’s car over the hillside, where it hit a small tree. Officers said the tree stopped the car from going over the hill to Cedar Street, but noted the car hit the tree at the driver’s door, preventing the driver from getting out. She was rescued by police and New Castle firefighters, who were able to open the passenger door and get her out.
Police said as they got to the top of the hill, firefighters saw the Cavalier smoking from a small fire.
Hazel told police she had not seen the other vehicle coming when she entered the intersection.
Brickell, interviewed at Jameson Hospital, told police she had been southbound on North Liberty Street but had no memory of the crash. She said she was not wearing a seat belt.
Brickell was treated at the hospital then released Saturday night. Police said Hazel refused treatment.
Both vehicles were towed.

Are you concerned enough about the Heartbleed bug on the Internet to change all of your social media and website passwords?

Yes. It’s always a good idea to change passwords regularly anyway. I just have so many, I’m not sure where to start.
No. From what I’ve read, companies are still trying to figure out how to fix the flaw. The bad guys will just have access to my NEW passwords, too.
Not sure, but I blame Al Gore. He invented the Internet, right? How’s he going to get us out of this mess?
