Developing Story: School board candidate facing charges

NEW CASTLE — A candidate for the New Castle school board has been accused of buying stolen meat.

Mark A. Panella, who also is an assistant fire chief in New Castle, is charged with receiving stolen property and disorderly conduct.

Union Township police said Panella was involved with buying meat that he knew had been stolen from Walmart.

A criminal complaint filed in the office of District Judge Jennifer Nicholson said Panella purchased the meat for his business, Buzz and Rich’s Tavern.
